Portarlington Leisure Centre
Portarlington Swimming Pool is a Local Authority and Community Managed Facility. The Project involved the Complete Refurbishment of an Existing Concrete Portal Frame Building constructed in 1972.
The construction included for extensive refurbishment including the removal of the existing swimming pool and replacement with an entirely new structural pool.
This project included an extensive Mechanical and Electrical fit-out and includes a New Entrance Area and Concourse/Viewing Area, New Changing Facilities, Gym, New Children’s Pool, Steam Room and Sauna Area, Meeting Rooms and Improved Spectator Areas. The Entrance Elevation features a Planar Glazed entrance Screen Framed with Ashlar Limestone and a gently Curved Glazed Wall to the New Viewing Area. The Roofs to the extensions respond to the curves in Plan and consist of Curved Kal-Zip Sheeting.
The Elevation facing the park has been treated in Architectural Cladding Panels with Cedar and a Patinated Copper Roof. The Building represents a Focal Point to the ‘Peoples Park’ and illuminates the recently constructed Relief Road in Portarlington.
The building was a finalist in the LAMA awards in 2007.
